Year 1
Hello, I’m Mr Karl Chambers, and I’m delighted to be the Year 1 teacher here at our school. I’m 35 years old and have a real passion for helping children develop a love of learning from an early age.
Outside of school, I enjoy running and listening to music — both great ways to unwind and stay active. When I was at school, my favourite subjects were Maths and Science, as I’ve always loved exploring how things work and solving problems. I aim to bring that same sense of curiosity and enthusiasm into my classroom every day.

I enjoy working closely with teachers and families to support children both academically and socially, and I take pride in building positive relationships with the children I work with.
I look forward to supporting the class and being part of a happy, successful year of learning together.

Curriculum
In English, we will be reading Rapunzel by Bethan Woollvin. Using this story as inspiration, the children will write their own narratives and focus on how to describe a villain in detail.
In Maths, following the White Rose scheme, we will continue to develop our understanding of addition and subtraction before moving on to Geometry, where we will explore and analyse 2D and 3D shapes.
In History, through the Kapow scheme, we will be exploring toys from the past, learning how they have changed over time and comparing them to toys we play with today.
In Design and Technology, also following the Kapow scheme, the children will be designing and making felt puppets, learning basic sewing skills and how to bring their creative ideas to life.
In Science, through the Kapow scheme, we will be investigating the changing seasons, observing how weather, temperature, and daylight vary throughout the year.
Homework Incentive Reminder
A reminder that the children in Year 1 are working towards earning a fantastic end of term reward. Each time children complete their homework, they will earn a special ‘DidiDot’ sticker which is added to a chart in the classroom. If children earn all 20 stickers by the end of the Autumn term they will take part in a special reward.
Weekly homework includes reading three times a week, weekly spelling practice and Phonics and spellings.
