Year 6
Mrs Hornby (teacher) and Mrs Adamou (HLTA) warmly welcome you to Year 6’s class page. This is the final chapter of your child’s primary school story and one with lots of challenges in which the children will work hard but will have the opportunity to shine. It is the last chance to make some more wonderful memories to cherish as they prepare to move on to the next part of their educational journey.
Please check our Facebook page each week to see some of the exciting learning that has been happening in our class. Also, we use Class Dojo to communicate with our families, keeping you up to date with anything regarding life in Year 6, please ensure you have signed up.
Please do not hesitate in contacting school should you have any queries or worries; there is always someone available to help.
Curriculum
In English the children’s learning was based around the picture book ‘Rose Blanche’. This excellent book explores the events which took place in WWII, in particular, the oppression of the Jewish people. The children thoroughly enjoyed this book and it inspired them to write excellent bravery award speeches – they were very thought-provoking pieces of work. Lots of our Guided Reading was based around the story too. This book has linked to our History topic and the children completed some excellent diaries, in role as a child evacuee. In Maths, the children have been learning to divide using the formal method – this proved to be a challenge initially but with determination they have conquered it! In Science, the children have also investigated how light travels and really enjoyed making a periscope to use in the trenches!
Homework Incentive Reminder
A reminder that the children in Year 6 are working towards earning a fantastic end of term reward. Each time children complete their homework, they will earn a special ‘DidiDot’ sticker which is added to a chart in the classroom. If children earn all 30 stickers by the end of the Autumn term, they will take part in a special reward day! Weekly homework includes reading three times a week, weekly spelling practice and a Math and Grammar page in the children’s CGP books. Please also ask for your child’s TT Rockstar login details.
