Year 2
Welcome to our Year 2 classroom!
Here, kindness and curiosity guide our learning every day. We foster a friendly, supportive space where each child feels valued and inspired to grow. Through fun activities and teamwork, our Year 2 children can become confident, caring learners ready for new adventures!
Meet the Year 2 Team
Miss Reynolds – Class Teacher
I have been a Year 2 teacher for the past two years, and I absolutely love it. One of my favourite parts of teaching is seeing the children grow in confidence, develop their own personalities, and really shine throughout the year. I enjoy teaching every part of the curriculum, but my specialism is PE. Fun fact: I’m also a dance teacher outside of school!
I love teaching because I get to watch the children thrive, exceed their learning goals, and enjoy spending time with their friends. It’s wonderful seeing them take on new responsibilities as the oldest in their key stage - becoming role models, taking on class jobs, and supporting the younger children.
Mrs Smethurst – Teaching Assistant
I’ve been teaching for over 20 years, and I still love that no two days are ever the same. The children always keep me smiling with the funny - and sometimes very honest - things they say! One of my favourite parts of teaching is watching their personalities grow and develop throughout the year. This is now my second year working with Miss Reynolds in the same class, and I love the teamwork and fun we bring to our classroom. Fun fact: I enjoy reading and watching tennis (though definitely not at the same time!).
Together, we aim to make Year 2 a positive, nurturing, and enjoyable experience for every child.
PE days
In year 2 our PE days are every Wednesday and Thursday. Please send children in with their PE kit and trainers on these days.
Homework Incentive Reminder
A reminder that the children in Year 2 are working towards earning a fantastic end-of-term reward. Each time children complete their reading or homework, they will earn a special ‘DidiDot’ sticker which is added to our classroom chart. If they collect all 20 stickers by the end of the term, they will enjoy a special reward treat!
Weekly homework includes reading at least three times a week, weekly spelling practice and either a phonics or maths worksheet. All homework is posted on Class Dojo every Friday afternoon, and children have until the following Friday to complete it. Homework is now recorded in class - if children bring it in, they can earn between 5 and 10 Dojos.
Children are also encouraged to use TT Rockstars regularly to practise their times tables, so please ask if you need your child’s login details.

If you would like any extra resources - such as handwriting sheets or additional practice in a particular area - please just let me know. I’m always more than happy to help!
SATs information
As some of you may know, the children will be taking SATs this year. They completed mock papers in October and will sit another round of practice papers in February, with the actual SATs scheduled for May. Please don’t worry about these assessments! The children are becoming familiar with SATs-style questions in their regular work, helping them feel more confident and prepared. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!
