Year 3
Welcome to Year 3! The children have already settled in well and made a fantastic start to the year, demonstrating remarkable enthusiasm and dedication in their learning.
Curriculum
This half term, Year 3 have been busy across all subjects! In English, we’ve explored The Iron Man by Ted Hughes, writing suspenseful “approaching threat” narratives and formal explanations to the Mayor for traps designed to capture the Iron Man. In Maths, we’ve been tackling addition and subtraction with three-digit numbers using the column method. Science lessons took us underground as we investigated different types of rocks and soils, while in History we travelled through the Stone, Bronze, and Iron Ages to see how life and technology evolved. Our Art lessons linked beautifully with History as we created striking prehistoric cave art using natural colours and textures. In Computing, we learned about networks and systems, discovering how computers connect and share information. PE has been all about gymnastics and an Iron Man–inspired dance, showing strength, coordination, and creativity. In French, we’ve been greeting each other with confidence ‘bonjour!’ and learning how to ask and answer “ça va?” It’s been a term packed with creativity, curiosity, and brilliant efforts from every student!
Homework Incentive Reminder
A reminder that the children in Year 3 are working towards earning a fantastic end of term reward. Each time children complete their homework, they will earn a special ‘DidiDot’ sticker which is added to a chart in the classroom. If children earn all 20 stickers by the end of the Autumn term they will take part in a special reward day!
Weekly homework includes reading three times a week, weekly spelling practice and a Math page in the children’s CGP books.
